When someone comes across these classics for the first time, and maybe even doesn’t know anything about “self-help,” the titles do something else that makes that new customer do a double take:

The offer is part of the name – Why beat around the bush with a name that doesn’t mean anything until you hear a sales pitch. If you’re showing up to sell something, tell them what it is when you say your name!
Take, for example, The Satanic Bible. That’s a doozy written 50 years ago – and still a bestseller! You know what it is immediately!
There is a mechanism, either directly stated or implied – Continuing with our pal Satan for a minute, the word “Bible” in the title is in itself a mechanism! Everyone knows what a Bible it and they know what to do with it. In this case, they are going into the world of Devil worship, which makes the next trait obvious.
Magic – All the great million dollar products have just a hint of magic in their names. A great product is not just presenting an offer, and a mechanism, but also inviting you into a world where you will know things that others don’t, where you will experience benefits that they don’t – but only if you accept the offer!
