I was rolling through McDonald’s when I got into a short conversation with the outside order taker. We asked each other how the day was going and he responded by saying he was applying for a couple of jobs. I asked him what. He mentioned an entry-level government job. I said oh I know how to get those jobs would you like me to tell you. He said yes.
And then in under 90 seconds I gave him an outline of what to do. He was grateful and wanted to ask questions but there was a dude in a Dodge Ram pickup scowling behind us. So I said, I’ll pull over and get your phone number. We did that and then I texted him a checklist of a bunch of things to do. Now this is a field I am qualified to teach about. He was grateful. End of transaction.
I’ve interacted with this young person before and he is very personable. I think he will follow through on some of my suggestions. That is not in my control.
But I taught this person something he wanted to learn about. It was very pleasant and I enjoyed doing it. Main point is I rattled it off. I am 100% certain that there are many topics for which you could do the same thing.
Before you get bogged down in planning, just rattle it off. Record it on audio or video or write down an outline. You can dictate text Into a notepad on your phone. It’s easy. You know lots of stuff that other people want to learn about. If you haven’t gotten started yet I hope you begin your publication or business endeavor soon.
